Multiple "Packet Scheduler Miniport" Network Adaptor instances in Device Manager
Unknown to me, when I have been plugging my wireless network adaptor into different USB ports on my laptop I have been creating multiple instances of the Packet Sceduler Miniport. This has ended up with conflicts with computer rescources & now the adaptor won't work. The entries in the network adapters bit of the device manager are thus: Belkin N1 Wireless USB Network Adapter - Packet Sceduler Miniport Belkin N1 Wireless USB Network Adapter #2- Packet Sceduler Miniport Belkin N1 Wireless USB Network Adapter #3- Packet Sceduler Miniport Belkin N1 Wireless USB Network Adapter #4- Packet Sceduler Miniport etc. I've uninstalled the adaptor & rebooted, but Windows has left these behind. When I try to uninstall them I'm told that the uninstall failed because the device may be required to boot up the computer. If I disable them & reinstall the device it still won't work. How do I purge these out so I can create a clean install of the device?

Hi, I have the following suggestions for you. 1. Click Start, right click Computer and choose Properties. 2. Click Device Manager. 3. Click View, check Show hidden devices. 4. Please remove all Belkin N1 Wireless USB Network Adapter on the Device Manager. 5. Restart the computer to test this issue. In addition, you also can contact Belkin Support to address this specific issue. Belkin Support http://www.belkin.com/support/ Hope it helps. Thanks for that suggestion Robson. I have indeed tried that solution. I have also tried uninstalling the QOS Packet Scheduler Miniports from all network connections. However this still leaves me with 3 unrepairableinstances of the Packet Scheduler Miniports #n. I've contacted Belkin support by phone. They proved to be pretty useless. I was asked to refer back to the hardware vendor. A cop out! However I had a bit more joy with their email support!!?? I told them that I have backed up my registry & wanted to know where the entries for the Belkin devices were. I've now tried that & all that acheived was the removal of the device from Device Manager & not the removal of any of the Packet Scheduler Miniports. Is there a setting somewhere in Windows XP Pro that controls the way Windows handles devices plugged into different ports? The person at Belkin said that it shouldn't matter what port a device is plugged into, once the driver is installed it should work in any of them. Is that correct? Cheers Paul

I suffered from the same problem with a cr%ppy Air link PCMCIA cardbus adapter. The hardware/ driver installation caused the blue death. After removing the adapter the phantom wan miniport driver remained and persisted in causing the blue death on startup, and could not be uninstalled. What ultimately worked for me was to go into the properties of all the network connections and remove the service QoS packet scheduler on all of the connections. Once I did that Voila! the phantom wan miniport disappeared. Then the Qos Packet scheduler can be reinstalled in necessary.
